Through a cohort-based and practical civic action model, the Lab supports Gen Z to build skills in civic literacy, digital citizenship, digital democracy, online safety, misinformation resilience, evidence gathering, public communication, community mobilisation and constructive engagement with institutions.

The Lab treats Gen Z young people as civic actors and co-creators. Young people are supported to identify issues affecting their communities, understand how public decisions are made, mobilise peers responsibly, communicate evidence clearly and contribute practical recommendations for change. Divided into two tracks

• Civic Action and Participation Track: Through the Civic Action and Participation Track, Gen Z fellows apply their learning to real issues affecting young people and their communities. These include misinformation and disinformation, youth exclusion from decision-making, digital safety, online harassment, weak public accountability, digital access, inclusive education financing, gender-responsive budgeting and service delivery gaps. Fellows use digital tools to produce civic education content, document community concerns, organise dialogue, counter harmful narratives and engage relevant stakeholders with evidence-based messages. This track is strengthening a generation of Gen Z citizens who can move from online reaction to responsible civic participation and public problem-solving.
• Barracks Youth Civic Inclusion Track: The Lab intentionally includes Gen Z young people from military barracks and fallen heroes’ communities through a dedicated civic inclusion pathway. These young people are connected to national service and sacrifice, yet are often left out of civic leadership and digital opportunity programmes.
