School Advocacy Campaign in Kaduna State

The Secondary School Awareness Campaign is a structured, age-appropriate learning session for adolescent girls and young women across Kaduna State’s 23 Local Government Areas. The campaign is designed to help girls understand the real risks they face such as gender-based violence, early marriage, unsafe relationships, misinformation about sexual and reproductive health, mental health stigma, and online harm while building the confidence to protect themselves and seek help early. Through interactive school sessions (assemblies, classroom engagements, girls’ clubs, and peer-learning circles), participants will learn what abuse looks like in everyday situations, what consent means, how to identify grooming and coercion, and how to respond safely when boundaries are violated. The campaign also addresses SRH knowledge gaps with simple, culturally sensitive education that supports informed decision-making, while promoting mental wellbeing by normalizing help-seeking and reducing shame around trauma and stress. A major strength of this activity is its practical safeguarding focus: girls will be guided through clear reporting pathways within schools and communities, introduced to trusted support persons, and given simplified resource materials in accessible language. By the end of the campaign, more girls will know their rights, recognize unsafe situations earlier, and feel supported to report and seek protection without fear or confusion.
